The story of Serenity Now Yarn & Alpaca Shop begins with a little girl, a crochet hook, and a grandmother’s gentle hands guiding her through her first chain stitch. I was just ten when I fell in love with yarn—the colors, the textures, the magic of making something with your own hands. It was the start of a lifelong journey in fiber.
In my twenties, I taught myself to knit, hungry to learn more, to make more, to connect with that soothing rhythm that only yarn and needles can provide. That love led me to work in a yarn shop for a while, and I discovered something even more beautiful than the yarn itself: community. The way fiber brings people together—how a shared love of craft becomes conversation, friendship, and support.
Eventually, spinning called to me, and then weaving. Each new skill was a new way to listen to the language of fiber.
Our family’s fiber story deepened when our youngest daughter Jennifer joined 4H and we brought home our first baby lamb. Then, as often happens on farms and in life, one thing led to another. My mother thought we needed a few llamas—so we added a few. To support her sister, our oldest daughter Megan began showing an alpaca because Jennifer was showing a Llama and the classes were very small. The alpacas stole my heart.
That’s when I met Esther. We crossed paths at a retreat, bonded over fiber, and about a year later I came home with a couple of her alpacas. Over the years, our family and our herd grew and evolved. When the girls grew up and left the show rings behind, we downsized to just a few beloved animals—two sheep, two alpacas, and one llama—and eventually sold our farm and moved to Pine River.
And then, as if it had all been leading to this moment, Esther was thinking of selling her shop, which had became my favorite yarn shop. The timing was perfect.
Now, I get to live the dream I didn’t even know I had when I was ten years old learning to crochet. At Serenity Now Yarn & Alpaca Shop, I get to share my love of fiber with a new community—teaching, learning, laughing, and stitching alongside others who find the same kind of peace in fiber arts.
Our shop carries beautiful natural fibers, with a special focus on alpaca. You'll find spinning wheels, looms, and plenty of roving. We proudly support our local makers with unique consignment items. We also carry candles, goat milk soaps, and herbal teas.
Serenity Now is more than a yarn shop. It’s a place to breathe, create, and belong. A place where fiber connects people and each stitch is part of a larger story—woven with love, community, and just the right amount of alpaca.
